Fine Motor Fun

We worked so hard coloring rainbow letters and tearing paper.  Look how great our names look.
Tearing paper is a great way to improve handwriting by strengthening the muscles in our hands.

Elmer the Elephant

We read one of my favorite books, Elmer the Elephant and made our own patchwork elephants.
Ask your child, the characters, setting, problem and solution.
Watch for Elmer to come home soon!

That’s why SunnyD is teaming up with moms, teachers and kids for the SunnyD Book Spree. Parents collect labels and send them in to class with their kids. Teachers then send them in to the SunnyD Book Spree to get the free books. 20 UPC labels gets your kid’s class 20 FREE BOOKS. Kindergarten Rules

We have a lot of rules and procedures to keep us safe so we can all have
Ask your child what “carpet rules” they know

Sit criss cross applesauce
Hands together
Eyes on speaker
listen

Table Rules

When we sit at our tables we think
belly, back, brain!

Huh???

Belly touching the table
back on the chair
 brain thinking

If we sit this way our body and brain are all working together to make us “Smarter”

Behavior Clip Chart

Our clip chart is in full effect!  This is the first year I have used it and love it.  Remember to initial the monthly calendar and keep it in the blue folder.

The color chart explanation is yours to keep.

Just Playing

When I'm building in the block area,
Please don't say I'm "Just Playing."
For, you see, I'm learning as I play:
about balance and shapes.
Who knows, I may be an architect someday.
When I'm getting all dressed up, setting the table, caring for the babies,
Don't get the idea I'm, "Just Playing."
For, you see, I'm learning as I play:
I may be a mother or a father someday.
When you see me up to my elbows in paint, or standing at an easel,
or molding and shaping the clay,
Please don't let me hear you say,
"He's Just Playing."
For, you see, I'm learning as I play.
I'm expressing myself and being creative.
I may be an artist or an inventor someday.
When you see me sitting in a chair "reading" to an imaginary audience,
Please don't laugh and think I'm
"Just Playing."
For you see, I'm learning as I play.
I may be a teacher someday.
When you see me combing the
bushes for bugs,
or packing my pockets with
choice things I find,
Don't pass it off as "Just Playing."
For, you see, I 'm learning as I play.
I may be a scientist someday.
When you see me engrossed in a puzzle or some plaything at my school,
Please don't feel the time is wasted in "Play."
For, you see, I'm learning as I play.
I'm learning to solve problems and concentrate.
I may be in business someday.
When you see me cooking to tasting foods,
Please don't think that because I enjoy it, it is "Just Playing."
For, you see, I'm learning as I play.
I'm learning to follow directions and see differences.
I may be a cook someday.
When you see me learning to skip, hop, run, and move my body,
Please don't say I'm "Just Playing."
For, you see, I'm learning as I play.
I'm learning how my body works.
I may be a doctor, nurse, or an athlete someday.
When you ask me what I've done at school today, and I say, "I Just Played,"
Please don't misunderstand me.
For, you see, I'm learning as I play.
I'm learning to enjoy and be successful in my work,
I'm preparing for tomorrow.

Today, I am a child and my work IS play

Hello Song

Each morning we listen to the "Hello Song" while we get unpacked.  We put our own folders in the folder basket, lunches on the hooks, water bottles in the bucket, backpacks zipped up and on our chairs.  We sing and dance while we work and have to be READY TO LEARN at the carpet before the song ends!

We love this book!   Here is a link to the video.

First Week Fun

Lunch Time

We learned how to eat our lunches in our classroom this week.

Here is our cafeteria.  Ask your kindergarten if they know how many kinds of milk they can chose from. How many hands they use to carry their tray?
